This week we went to lake Rotokare for our topic Native flora and fauna. We had a magnificent bush walk, heard lots of bird sounds even Miss B did! We saw an adult whitebait  as well. We went to the indoor and outdoor classroom, the worst activity was we had to smell pest poo! We saw a Black swan, Bell bird and a Fantail. For maths we were doing time and measurement. For measurement one group played  battle ships with the hula hoops . We’ve had a cool week and, we`ve had 2 birthdays for Anthony`s and Jake`s and happy birthday to Daniel on mothers day.

On Monday a water wise person came . Some people answered questions and won stickers and the teachers gave them to the people .

Anzac - On Monday and Tuesday we had Anzac rotations .  Some people did stuff like , cooking soldier biscuts , wreath , last post ,war memorial ,poppy… On Wednesday  because it was Anzac day, Some students went to dawn parade at 6am in the morning invented by Australia.

On Thursday we started our topic for term 2 it’s called Native Flora and Fauna. We learnt the words of flora and fauna. Flora means plants and fauna means animals and native means somewhere it belongs naturally.

Posted by: | March 2, 2012 | 3 Comments |

This week Matapu School had their competitive athletics day. We competed in classes and houses in discuss, sprints, shotput, standing jump and relays. A lot of year 5/6 records got broken by our room 2 athletes. AJ, Eman and Nikita all had the opportunity to race against the Parents relay team, but the parents won out in the end by just a few metres.

Online health and language lessons have started this week.

Today in assembly we presented a powerpoint to the rest of the school about our roles as com post cops and paper police and what this should look like around the school. You can check out our powerpoint here…Our public message for assembly

Room 2 Homework expectations 2012

This week we went to the surf life-saving club in Opunake. We went boogie boarding, some of us dressed up as life-guards, we played some beach games and we learnt about rips and currents so we know how to look out for dangerous spots on the beach. There was a really funny video that helped us to understand the ten rules of being safe at the beach.

We have been drafting and publishing letters as a reply to Miss B’s letter to us. These have included information about our personalities and our backgrounds so she knows more about us.

Also this week we have celebrated Miss B’s and Emma’s birthdays’ (with cake!).

Desk mats to show our personality further is another thing we have been working on this week.

Miss B says we will be starting underway with nightly homework next week so stay tuned for information on what that will look like…
